Tirupur: Farmers and other villagers have filed a petition seeking action against Bharat Petroleum, a private company for taking pictures of roofless bathrooms in the guise of survey their region for pipeline work.

The Bharat Petroleum company reportedly conducted unmanned aerial surveillance at Tirupur's Kandian Kovil area to survey the land to lay petroleum pipes. At the Kandian Kovil village where about 1000 families reside, roofless bathrooms are common and even most women are engaged in agricultural work without having to be too conscious about their clothing.

But, Bharat Petroleum reportedly took some images of the area on an unmanned aerial camera on September 14 in the guise of scouting for means to do pipeline work in the area. Villagers allege that there were likely to be pictures of women who were bathing or working with improper clothing in the images shot through the aerial camera. Villagers claim that this was a breach of their privacy according to law.

Hence, the villagers have submitted a petition to the District Collector and demanded action against the District Administration Officer who allowed the employees of Bharat Petroleum to film illegally.
