Coimbatore: A seminar on 'Keezhadi - A historical view' was held at Arudhra auditorium on Coimbatore-Hosur road on behalf of the Nanneri Kazhagam.
Taking part in the seminar, MP Venkatesan stated that in the upcoming parliamentary session, he would demand from the Government that Keezhadi ought to be declared as a preserved monument area.
The 'Keezhadi' excavation pointed to an ancient civilization that thrived on the banks of Vaigai. This is the proof against the general opinion that after Indus and Ganga river civilizations, there was no secondary urban civilization in Tamil Nadu. Being the largest excavation done in Tamil Nadu, the evidence found during this excavation has not only gladdened the hearts of the Tamil people but has also grabbed worldwide attention.
MP Venkatesan who played a significant role on various platforms to highlight the importance of this excavation to the outside world was the guest of honour at the seminar held at Arudhra Auditorium on behalf of Nanneri Kazhagam. He addressed the gathering and said that the underlying study of this excavation is just the tip of the tail of a big organism. He also added that in subsequent excavations, the body, head and face of Tamil history will be revealed to the world.
Later, in an exclusive talk with Simplicity, MP Venkatesan said, "The State Government should take steps to set up a museum of international standards. Likewise, 'Keezhadi' should be declared as the Sangam period habitat. The State Government has officially issued an interim report on the excavation. We will talk about this in the upcoming parliamentary session. The Saadawli area of Uttar Pradesh has been declared as the preserved monument area by the Central Government. Likewise, we are also urging that Keezhadi be declared as a preserved monument area," he added.
MP Venkatesan also commended the State Archeology Department for their fabulous job over the past two years and urged them to continue the excavation further.
