Ten unions of National textile corporation mills, led by Hind Mazdoor Sabha (HMS) came together to form a NTC Workers Security Association today at Coimbatore. A meeting was held with ten unions including AITUC, INTUC, CITU and NDLF participated. The meeting was presided by T.S. Rajamani of HMS.

In an interaction with the press after the union meeting Rajamani stated that the association was formed to present a unified demand to the central government. “The demands include preventing the privatization of NTC mills, leasing of NTC property initially and later leading to sale of NTC mills’ property and to use any kind of profit / revenue earned out of NTC for the welfare of NTC workers”.
“NTC mills was acquired by the central government in 1968 to serve public welfare. So the central government should not think about privatizing the mills. 3000 workers are currently employed in the seven mills of Tamil Nadu, whereas the Southern regional office comprising of TN, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh consist of 15000 workers and their lives will be affected if the government goes ahead with its plan of privatization, “ added Rajamani.
The union is planning to meet the political leaders from both the ruling and opposition parties of Tamil Nadu and raise this issue in parliament
