Coimbatore : District Collector, K.Rajamani on Saturday inspected the Agricultural, Horticulture and Agricultural Engineering schemes implemented in Coimbatore district and Periyanaickenpalayam Panchayat Union.
Coimbatore : District Collector, K.Rajamani on Saturday inspected the Agricultural, Horticulture and Agricultural Engineering schemes implemented in Coimbatore district and Periyanaickenpalayam Panchayat Union.
Addressing the media, the District Collector K.Rajamani said, "Agriculture is the lifeline of the country's economy. To achieve sustainability in food security and to protect the welfare of the people, agricultural development is significant.The state's primary duty is to ensure that all have adequate food."
"Accordingly, the agriculture department and the State government is implementing various schemes for the welfare of the farmers. The farmers are working with the department of agriculture on setting up of water storage drip and sprinkler irrigation equipment. Farmers using drip irrigation scheme will be provided subsidy. 100% subsidy will be provided to small farmers and 75% to large farmers", he added.
The department of agricultural engineering is spear heading various projects like Rainwater Harvesting and Water Management Program, Integrated Wastewater Development Program, Solar Electrometer Installation Program, Fish farm pond setting and Artificial Integrated Scheme.
A subsidy of Rs 72,465/- has been granted for installing drip irrigation in a farm belonging to Velusamy where sugarcane is cultivated in 1.80 acres. The collector also inspected the farmland belonging to Padmanaban in Devayampalayam where solar power electric motor is installed for drip irrigation for Rs 5.25 lakhs. He also inspected the farmlands at Thirumalai Naickenpalayam where the farmers have made use of schemes of National Horticulture Program and seed farming scheme of the Department of Agriculture.
He also inspected the fields in Kurudampalayam where metrorazium sprays were administered in 318 acres of land in Coimbatore district at Rs 15.05 lakhs.
District Collector urged the farmers to make use of the various welfare schemes and benefit. As part of his visit, he inaugurated the project of planting palm seeds through Rainfed Village farmers Development Committee.
