Due to heavy rains in the district especially during the night time, many places along the state highway from Ooty to Manjoor, Kinnakorai have been hit by landslides.
A flood alert has been sounded to the residents living along Upper Bhavani, Kundah and Avalanche.
From October 16, the district has been pounded with heavy rainfall. All major dams are brimming with water and several landslides and tree uprooting incidents have been reported.
Traffic between Ooty and Manjoor went haywire on Friday after a landslide struck the area. Despite the strenuous efforts by the rescue department, the round-the-clock rains have made it very difficult for the rescue workers to clear the debris.
The district administration has geared up rescue operations and all necessary arrangements for the people affected in the rains are being closely monitored by the District Collector.
