Coimbatore : The month of Purattasi (September 15 to October 15) is regarded to be sluggish month for the traders in Annur Goat Shandy, as people generally refrain from consuming non vegetarian, the whole month. Owing to the practice, livestock trade would usually take a hit across the State.

As Puratassi month has concluded, the livestock rearers at the Annur Shandy were seen much relieved and brimming in joy, as they recorded a trade of Rs. 1 crore, yesterday.
After a months break, the Aatu sandhai (shandy) resumed active business and livestock rearers across the region especially from Tirupur, Puliampatti, Nilgiris, Kerala, Karnataka thronged the sandhai to buy and sell their goats, sheeps and poultry.
The selling price of the goats ranged from Rs 5,000 to Rs 20,000 depending upon the weight and quality. The merchants expressed joy, as after a month-long break the goats were sold for good price and earned them a bounty.
