Kaliraj took charge as the new Vice-Chancellor of Bharathiar University on Wednesday requested the staff and the students to work hard to make the University a world class institution.

After 18 months of vacancy, the post of VC was finally filled with the appointment of Prof. P. Kaliraj. Addressing the media here the newly-appointed VC vowed to uplift the University standards.
"The University should focus on generating qualified graduates. There is lot of job opportunities in India, hence preparing students towards job is very important rather than focussing only on academics", the VC said.
He added saying that the joint efforts could transform the university and the students to a better place and added that they should also work with the colleges that function under the university. He further added that if the data and information are used properly, the quality of the university would drastically improve.

The VC emphasized that private colleges should regard education as a service and work with the university for the benefit of students. He warned that stringent action would be initiated against sexual offences.
When questioned on the pending appointment of board of directors, he apprised that the board of directors would be appointed with transparency.
He clarified and assured that all problems prevailing in the university would be rectified with transparency, and also assured that the administration would investigate past administrative problems and initiate remedial action.
