Tirupur : Two motorcycle-borne snatchers targeted an elderly woman on Thursday in Tirupur.
Venkatasalam who hails from Bhimarayar main road, Dharapuram in Tirupur district works for a textile business unit. On Thursday, his wife Ramani (64) was walking alone to her relative's home near Chinnakaliamman temple on Church Road.
Suddenly, two men on a two-wheeler reportedly grabbed her 5-sovereign chains and fled the scene.
A shocked Ramani cried for help and though passers-by chased the men, they failed to nab them. On receiving information, the Superintendent of Police, Jayaraman and other Police Inspectors rushed to the scene and investigated.
They examined surveillance cameras mounted on homes in the area and found that the men were watching Ramani, and while the rider wore a helmet, the pillion-rider did not. The police scoured all check posts and two-wheelers in the area. As the miscreants could not be traced, the police are continuing to investigate the chain-snatching incident which happened in broad daylight.
