Coimbatore: As many as 25 kids from the Panappalli Primary School in the Anaikatti hills celebrated a pollution free Green Diwali here on Wednesday.
Coimbatore: As many as 25 kids from the Panappalli Primary School in the Anaikatti hills celebrated a pollution free Green Diwali here on Wednesday.
In an event jointly organised by CESA studio, Social Club - Eagai and Eco Green Club: Manvasam of the Department of Civil Engineering of Krishna College of Engineering, tribal kids were engaged in activities including fun games and cultural programme.
The students were also given an orientation of the ill effects of crackers and plastic wastes on hill stations like Anaikatti, which is surrounded by wildlife.
One of the standout features of the celebration was the selfie arena that was set up in the play area. Children thoroughly enjoyed being photographed and taking selfies from inside a car like frame structure.
“These are available in almost all shopping malls and public gathering in the city, whereas, people who live here do not get the luxury of enjoying such common happenings of the city,” said Prithvi, one of the organisers.
He further added that it was important for them to not only entertain but also educate the students about the environment and the factors that pollute it.
“These people are enjoying fresh air, clean water and a green surrounding. It is imperative that they grow into conservationists to protect the natural resources that they cherish,” he added.
The students were also informed about the importance of trees, water, pollution less air and advised not to litter in their schools.
At the end of the event, winners of various competitions were provided with prizes.
The event ended with a cheerful tribal dance performed by local people.
