Coimbatore: The early onset of Northeast monsoon and heavy showers for the past four days in the district has surprised the people here, as northeast monsoon failed to bring any respite over the past few years.

Coimbatore: The early onset of Northeast monsoon and heavy showers for the past four days in the district has surprised the people here, as northeast monsoon failed to bring any respite over the past few years. 

It is predicted that heavy to moderate showers could possibly lash the city as early as 10 am in the morning to 4 pm and is expected to have a break at 2pm. 

With Met and IMD, warning of heavy to very heavy rain over the week in the southern districts including Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Tirupur, the farmers in the region have expressed immense joy as water bodies have begun to brim yet again, after a months time. 

The Mettur dam here has attained it's full capacity of 100 feet and 30,000 cusecs of water has been released from the reservoir into Bhavani river. A flood alert has been issued to people living in low lying areas and those living alomg the banks of the river. 

However, the public are concerned of the waterlogging issues in the city and have requested the CCMC to take precautionary measures to prevent water stagnation at arterial roads and gear up pumping to dewatering the underpasses.
