Coimbatore : While the public of this smart city are tired of complaining and getting used to travel amidst the deadly roads filled with potholes, the members of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) had chosen a novel way to remind the Corporation of its responsibility of providing safe roads to the citizens.

A handful of members of DYFI on Thursday night gathered at Sivanandhapuram area in Ganapathy and made paper boats and made them float in the large pot holes on the road.which was filed with rain water.

"What better way to remind the City Corporation of poor roads and potholes which have transformed into water pools over these three days of rains. This area in Ganapathy lastly saw neat roads in 2008. After which the corporation has dug the roads for multiple reasons but never had the concern to cover them up with tar. Everyday accidents are a common phenomenon on these roads", the DYFI members stated.

The public in the area also recalled of the accident that happened this morning during which an elderly couple slipped off their vehicle and sustained severe injuries.

The issue of water stagnation, uneven roads and potholes have been escalated to the concerned officials but nothing has been done, so far, the public complain.

Over 15,000 families who live there are subjected to tremendous inconvenience on a daily basis. The city corporation has to focus on their area and set right the basic amenities of the tax payers, the public opine.
