The Corporation has repeatedly sounded warnings of not allowing water to stagnate in public places, not allow debris to pile up, keeping household tanks clean, having drums and old tires removed near homes, in an effort to prevent breeding of mosquitoes.

The Corporation has repeatedly sounded warnings of not allowing water to stagnate in public places, not allow debris to pile up, keeping household tanks clean, having drums and old tires removed near homes, in an effort to prevent breeding of mosquitoes.
But ironically, the District Collectorate does not seem to have practised what it has been preaching. Even as one enters the Coimbatore District Collector's office, the Child Labor Abolition Department office is found on the right. All old Government vehicles that are not in use can be seen parked there, for years now. Officials and public find it difficult to pass by because of the stench caused by debris collected under these vehicles over the years.
Every day, hundreds of people line up to receive an Aadhaar card, name change and phone number registration in this e-service building. On the way to this e-service centre, a rat was found dead, today. The rat had not been removed even after complaints by the public. Also, a large number of mosquito larvae and mosquitoes that could spread dengue are found floating in the waste water tank that is kept open on the way to the Treasury building at the District Collectorate.
Mosquito infestation is highest below cars parked for years on the way to the Public Relations Office which is filled with debris, mosquitoes and reeks of stench. In the two-wheeler parking area behind where vehicles seized for smuggling rice are parked, is also in a dilapidated condition with heaps of garbage piled up.
The public toilet near the Treasury has not been maintained adding to the stench. Since renovation work is currently underway at the District Collector's office, there are iron drums filled with water which have been placed in various places that could be breeding ground for the dengue mosquitoes.
Hence the public have demanded that the district administration and the city administration which harps on public having to maintain hygiene and sanitation ought to first clean up their own office buildings.
It is now expected that the District Collector, Collectorate staff and sanitary workers in the premises will act swiftly to take necessary action in maintaining the cleanliness of the District Collectorate premises.
