Food Safety officials warn KMCH management after complaint of worms in patient's food

Coimbatore: At Coimbatore's most reputed hospital, the Kovai Medical Center and Hospital (KMCH), patients are not allowed to bring in home food and are alternatively forced to eat food prepared at the hospital cafeteria. But the instance of worms found in one of the patient's food at KMCH has caused a stir in the hospital and among public who trust the hygiene and diligence of a reputed hospital like KMCH.


Coimbatore: At Coimbatore's most reputed hospital, the Kovai Medical Center and Hospital (KMCH), patients are not allowed to bring in home food and are alternatively forced to eat food prepared at the hospital cafeteria. But the instance of worms found in one of the patient's food at KMCH has caused a stir in the hospital and among public who trust the hygiene and diligence of a reputed hospital like KMCH. 



Relatives of the patient admitted at KMCH in Sitra, Avinashi Road were shocked to find worms in the food provided to the patient. After reporting the negligence to the hospital management, the relatives say that the food was replaced but the management reportedly told them not to exaggerate the problem. 

Meanwhile, Food Safety officials inspected the hospital's cafeteria kitchen following a complaint filed by the relatives of the patient. It was confirmed that the tomatoes which were used for cooking had worms in them. 

Commenting on the incident, the District Food Safety Officer, Tamilselvan stated that the hospital was advised to check the quality of the products they use for cooking. He added that KMCH has been warned that if such complaints were repeated, a notice wiould be issued and appropriate action will be taken.
