Locals stage road roko in Nilgiris demanding immediate repair of neglected roads

The Nilgiris: Over 200 local residents in Nilgiris staged a road roko demanding for the repair of the damaged road in Manchanagarai which is part of the main route from Ooty to Nanjangadu, Edakkadu, Manjur.

The Nilgiris: Over 200 local residents in Nilgiris staged a road roko demanding for the repair of the damaged road in Manchanagarai which is part of the main route from Ooty to Nanjangadu, Edakkadu, Manjur. 

For over two hours, vehicles on either side of the road were stuck causing heavy traffic congestion in the area.



One of the main roads connecting the area has been in poor condition for more than a year. The public have been irked for long that that the road which is used as a main connecting road has not been repaired for a long period of time, in spite of requests. The road is used by school and college students, labourers and during peak season even tourist and Government buses use this road to commute. 

The public are now demanding that the district administration repair the damaged road which has been extensively used. 



The Municipal Commissioner and the police who arrived at the scene of the road roko convinced the locals to give up their protest after reassuring them that repair work on the road would begin in two days.
