Coimbatore : 'Viduthalai Pasumai Payanam' a tree planting drive was initiated at the Central Prison Complex in Coimbatore on Wednesday.

District Collector, K. Rajamani, Corporation Commissioner J. Sravan Kumar, Nallaram Trust President SP Anbarasan, Central prison Superindentent Senthil Kumar and others were present.

Speaking at the event, District Collector K. Rajamani said "These days, people are well aware of the existing air pollution. Understanding the ill-effects of pollution and degrading environment, people are willing to contribute to reduce the increasing air pollution. If we are lethargic of preserving our green cover now, then in the near future humans have to carry oxygen cylinders along with them."
He also commended on the NGO efforts and the tireless volunteers from the city who are willing to contribute their time and efforts to create a change in the environment.

"It is gratifying to see the lush green cover at the prison premises. Around 3000 trees are planted in the 2.5 acres inside the prison. The efforts taken to maintain the saplings is appreciable", the Collector said.
