Tirupur : In line with private schools providing its students with milk, biscuits and other protein-rich food during interval breaks at school, Ini Oru Vidhi Seivom Trust has taken up an initiative to provide nutritious food to students of Government schools too, to eradicate malnutrition. This has garnered wide appreciation from the public.

A recent study reveals that the students who attend Government schools in Tamil Nadu are often malnourished. Especially in Tirupur, which is a labour-intensive city, where both parents work and are preoccupied with their chores, breakfast for their school-going children is reportedly neglected. Thus, children leave for school without a proper nutritious breakfast which has led to malnutrition in students and inability to focus in classrooms.

Kavitha Jenanthan (37), the Founder of a private social organization from Tirupur selected The Panchayat Union Middle School in Tirupur Periyar Colony to offer nutritious food like pulses, dry grapes and so on to students during the morning interval break. "We adopted this school which has 110 students from Classes 1 to 8. This initiative which started on October 2 will be implemented for one full year to overcome the malnutrition of the students as much as possible. With more number of volunteers joining the Trust, we are planning to adopt as many Government schools as possible to expand this initiative," she added.
