Coimbatore: In a bid to create awareness on breast cancer and to enter the Limca Book of Records, as many as 10,282 students and staff of PSG College of Arts and Science (PSG CAS) formed a pink ribbon logo at the college ground, on Wednesday.

The Centre for Women's Studies of PSG CAS organised an event involving its students and faculty members to create cancer awareness by forming the breast cancer logo (Pink Ribbon) in the college premises.

About 10,300 students, including 6500 women and the faculty of PSG CAS formed the pink ribbon logo, while the male students formed the ring depicting that they were safeguarding the women participants.

To protect and preserve the younger generation, PSG CAS has initiated this event to march toward a healthy and conscious future by creating awareness on breast cancer. According to global statistics as of May 2019, a woman is affected by cancer every two minutes. This statistics could be controlled only through awareness.

Speaking at the event, Dr. J S Bhuvaneswaran, Director of PSG IMS R said, "Breast cancer has become a common cancer among women in India. Awareness and early detection of cancer is very important to treat the cancer to the fullest. I am fascinated seeing these students come forward to create awareness on breast cancer."

"Women should come out of the stigma and consult a doctor at the earliest to cure the disease to the fullest. During this 'Pink month,' we are organising free cancer awareness camp and women with family history and above 40 years should break the stigma and use the opportunity to detect the disease at the earliest," opined Madulika Vijayakumar, Oncologist, PSG IMS R.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. D Brindha advised students to involve themselves in physical activities. "Let all move toward a healthy life by doing physical exercises at least 30 minutes a day. Nutrition and exercise are the two important things to keep diseases at bay," she added.
