The youth alleged that Rs. 50 lakhs was robbed from them. But a twist in the investigation revealed that the bag that had been robbed had white papers with just a few currency notes.
Darshan (23), a resident of R S Puram and Rahul Kumar (23), a resident of Sungam had just started a business enterprise in Saibaba Colony. On Monday as the duo were reaching the toll gate in Kaniyur, unidentified men hit their vehicle and stabbed Rahul Kumar with a knife, and escaped with their money bag.
Based on the orders from the Superintendent of Police, Sujith Kumar, a team comprising of Additional Superintendent of Police, Anitha and the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Balamurugan conducted an intensive investigation on the case. As per the investigation, it was revealed that Darshan and Rahul Kumar had approached a man, Prabhakaran for financial assistance for business growth. Prabhakaran had promised to them with a loan of Rs. 50 lakhs and demanded Rs 2.50 lakhs as a loan transfer fee along with their property papers for mortgage.
Meanwhile on October 14, Prabhakaran had handed over a money bag to Rahul Kumar and told him that the bag had Rs. 30 lakhs in cash and a cheque of Rs. 20 Lakhs. Trusting him, Rahul Kumar and Darshan took the money bag and were returning to Coimbatore in their two-wheeler, when the robbery took place.
Police suspected Prabhakaran of foul play and hence along with his accomplices, Prabhakaran was being investigated in an undisclosed location. It was later revealed in the investigation that in the money bag supposedly with Rs. 30 lakhs, only a few currency notes and more white papers were found. The gang is being further investigated to reveal the true motive behind the robbery.
