An awareness meeting for the sweets and snacks manufacturers was held at the Hotel Vijay Park Inn on behalf of the Food Security Department of Coimbatore. The officials advised the sweet and snacks manufacturers to sell only quality snack items to customers, this Diwali season.
The officials have advised sweet manufacturers on several food safety measures like not adding extra pigments and to refrain from reusing oils. They were asked to maintain hygiene in the cooking area and to always wash hands before preparing food items. The Food Safety Department officials also announced in the meeting that all snacks manufacturers should have a license.
Regarding the same, Food Safety Officer, Tamilselvan said, "The sweet and the snacks manufacturers have been ordered to maintain hygiene in the cooking area and surroundings and to provide quality food items to the customers. The Food Department will also carry out sudden inspection work at the sales outlets and manufacturing areas until Diwali. The public can report their complaints on the Whatsapp number 94440 42322," he reiterated.
