The District Police Superintendent, Sujit Kumar has been actively working on the directives to curb the use of narcotics in the border areas of Coimbatore district. Arrests are underway to eradicate cannabis and drug pills in particular.
Similarly, drug users and dealers are constantly monitored by the police. In Coimbatore, there is a market for drugs like cannabis which targets college students and workers from Northern States. Subsequently, the police are constantly patrolling areas under their control to nab drug abusers.
When the police had received confidential information that cannabis was being marketed, targeting brick kiln workers near Thadagam, the police patrolled Chinna Thadagam yesterday. A young man was found standing suspiciously near North Street. When the police tried to catch the young man, he fled but was chased by the police and captured.
On further investigation, it was found that Ravi (36) was the son of Rajangam from Alanganallur in Madurai district. It was also revealed that he was working in a brick kiln and selling cannabis to the workers. The police then arrested Ravi and seized 1250 grams of cannabis from him and imprisoned him in Central Jail.
