While addressing the press, the MP informed that the railways should operate the train between Coimbatore to Rameswaram, Madurai and Tuticorin, as in the past.
"To stress our request, we are planing to hold a signature campaign from October 23. We would be stressing on recommencement of the night trains between Coimbatore - Bangalore", he added.
He also noted that after the meter gauge was converted into broad guage, the public here expected that the railways would introduce new trains to new destinations. However, no notable developments are seen.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA SR Balasubramaniam requested the Union government to take immediate action to start the passenger train service between Coimbatore and Rameswaram.
