The Nilgiris : In an unfortunate incident, a woman was reported dead in a landslide incident in a private tea estate in Kotagiri on Tuesday.
Lakshmi (59), wife of Beeman along with her son was engaged in plucking tea leaves at a private tea estate in Pettadi area in Kotagiri on Tuesday morning.
Due to heavy rainfall, a huge rock slipped off from the hilltop and fell on Lakshmi who was struck fully in between the rock. Hearing her son cry for help, the co-workers rushed to the spot and rescued her and sent her to the Government hospital, where she was declared brought dead.
The Kotagiri police have registered a case and investigations are on. The unfortunate death of the tea estate worker due to landslide has caused sorrow amidst the workers in Kotagiri.
It is to be noted that Kotagiri has received 62mm rainfall in the past 24 hours. And, landslides are reported in several parts.
