On Monday late evening, Tamilarasan (22), Sivaraj (20) were travelling in their two wheeler from Tirupur to Coimbatore.
While they reached Kaniyur toll plaza, their two wheeler collided with another two wheeler which was going ahead of them.
In the accident, both the pillion riders and the driver of the two wheeler were seriously injured. Meanwhile, an unidentified man attacked Rajkumar with a weapon and snatched the bag in which he had kept Rs. 50 lakhs of cash.
While he cried for help, the passers by went in rescue of the injured and sent them to Coimbatore government and private hospitals. The other two men in the two wheeler were identified as Dharshan (27) and Raj Kumar (25).
The incident shook the passersby who alleged that travellers along the highways are often being targeted by unidentified gangs who threaten them at knief point for ransom.
The Karumathampatti police are investigating the accident and the robbery. The police are suspicious if the accident was planted by the gang to commit robbery.
