The Nilgiris : The students of Oveli region in Nilgiris have submitted a petition to the District Collector to repair the roads in their area which had been damaged by the heavy rains that lashed the district in the past few months. The heavy downpour had also caused landslides in various parts of the district and damaged most roads.

Over 10 villages around Gudalur's Oveli area have been severely affected due to landslides on roads and bridges, making commute impossible.
In addition to the lack of proper transport facilities, students returning home on foot from school in the evenings have had to face dangers caused by elephants and bisons. The people in the area are forced to walk to reach their destination, even in case of emergencies. Hence, the students in the region petitioned the Collector to repair the damaged roads on a priority basis and enable alternate routes for bus transportation.
