The farmers who were protesting against the installation of high voltage towers through agricultural lands in Tirupur, Gundadam and Dharapuram area have been imprisoned in Coimbatore Central Jail for the last month based on the complaint by the Dharapuram Tahsildar.
Hundreds of farmers who were out on bail last week and supported by many more farmers lay siege to the District Collector's office, today. They petitioned the District Collector demanding the withdrawal of the false cases filed against the farmers and demanding action against the authorities who filed the false complaint.
The agitating farmers dispersed only after being reassured that a proper inquiry and action would be taken.
