With Coimbatore experiencing incessant rains for the past one month, water continued to be stagnant on roads and in drainages clogged with unused plastics. To curb the growth of Aedes mosquitoes that causes dengue, the Mettupalayam Municipality and the Lions Club have joined hands to raise awareness on dengue among the public.
As part of the initiative, an awareness program was conducted at the Mettupalayam Government Mahanjana School to educate students on the prevention of dengue fever and how to keep the neighbourhood safe.
Jayanaman, a municipality employee was dressed as a clown to catch the attention of the students while raising awareness about the prevention of breeding dengue mosquitoes.
Besides this, doctors from Siddha Department of Government Hospitals explained what needs to be done in the case of sudden fever and described the medical properties of Nilavembu Kashayam and papaya juice in case of a sudden illness. The school children participated enthusiastically throughout the awareness program.
