Coimbatore : City police arrested four men for circulating counterfeit currency notes worth Rs.14.9 lakhs in two different incidents. The Police also confiscated the cash and the machine used to print fake notes.
Coimbatore : City police arrested four men for circulating counterfeit currency notes worth Rs.14.9 lakhs in two different incidents. The Police also confiscated the cash and the machine used to print fake notes.
According to police reports, John Jacko, owns a stationery shop in Gandhi park. Recently, two men had come to his shop and bought a gum for Rs.10 and gave Rs. 100. After seeing the currency, John fell suspicious and questioned the duo who tried to escaped from the spot.
As the shopkeeper alerted the nearby public, they rounded up the duo and handed them over to R.S Puram police station.
The offenders were identified as Praveen from Dharmapuri and Bhoopathi from Erode. The Police then seized 31, Rs.100 fake notes from them.
On further investigation, it was revealed that Dhanraj, a resident of Idikarai was the person involved in printing fake notes and gave them to the duo for distribution. And, one other person named Ranjith from Ganapathy has also been involved in circulating similar counterfeit notes in the city.
In a bid to nab the entire gang, a special team led by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Perumal was formed. The team arrested Dhanraj and Ranjith and confiscated counterfiet currency notes worth Rs 14,09,150 and the machine used to print fake notes.
Upon investigation, it was revealed that Dhanraj, a native of Srivilliputhur has been residing in Coimbatore for the past 15 years. And, last year, he was booked in a counterfeit case in Srivilliputhur.
Dhanraj has reportedly scanned Rs.20, 50,100, 2000 currency notes and printed them using high-end printer and circulated the fake notes during festive seasons like Diwali to women and older people.
Police sources said that they are searching for two more people involved in the fake currency case.
