Covering a distance of 10 km, the marathon commenced at the District Collectorate on Sunday morning and finished at Pushpa Roundtana.
More than 1,000 people took part in the marathon. For children less than 13 years, a mini marathon covering 3km was conducted.
Addressing the participants, Collector K. Vijayakarthikeyan said that children's must be taught about water conservation and rain water harvesting. Practising to use water responsibly and refraining from using single use plastics from a early age will groom them into responsible citizens.
He also urged that Tirupur should set an example in terms of water conservation and banning plastic usage.
The winners of the marathon were awarded with cash prizes and shields.
