Coimbatore: Owing to a spate of complaints from the public against massage centres across the city, Police Commissioner Sumit Saran ordered all massage parlours to be shut down across the city, especially in Singanallur.
The police have announced that violators will be arrested. In areas where there are major hotels and privately-owned buildings in Coimbatore, there have been reports that prostitution is being done under the cover of massage parlours. The police conducted a raid last week and found over 60 massage centres operating in Coimbatore. Eight people including six women were arrested at the massage centres for indulging in prostitution.
Thereafter, a meeting was held at the East Zone Law and Order office with the Assistant Police Commissioner and the owners of the massage centres. The Assistant Commissioner categorically stated in the meeting that it is illegal to run massage centres without the permission of the Corporation and the Police and all violators will be arrested. "Moreover, the lodge owners and building owners who allow massage centres in their buildings will also be arrested. All massage centres must be shut down immediately," he reiterated.
