Coimbatore: The Amritha Vidyalayam from Ettimadai in Coimbatore, won the 12th edition of the State Level Wild Wisdom Quiz, jointly organised by World Wide for Fund for nature, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Kongu Nadu College of Arts and Science, at Kongu Nadu College campus here on Friday.
Coimbatore: The Amritha Vidyalayam from Ettimadai in Coimbatore, won the 12th edition of the State Level Wild Wisdom Quiz, jointly organised by World Wide for Fund for nature, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Kongu Nadu College of Arts and Science, at Kongu Nadu College campus here on Friday.
In the final contest that saw 120 students from 22 schools across the state compete, Amritha students, who had won the district level contest, continued their dominance and went through to the national level contest.
Vasuki, Secretary of Kongunadu Arts and Science College gave away the prizes to the winners, M. Dharshan and B. Gopi Karthick from Amritha Vidyalayam.
P. Rithvik Bala and R. Tejas were awarded in the junior category.
Welcoming the students, S. Saravanan, Coordinator of Environment Education said that the contest has inspired the students in Tamilnadu adding that they were actively participating every year. The quiz was conducted by the renowned WWF-India Quiz master Renjan Mathew Varghese, WWF-India, Kerala State Office.
As many as 15 state level winners would compete at the national level contest, which is to be hosted by Cyrus Sahukar. The contest would be held at New Delhi on October, 19th and 20th, 2019.
Themed at Exploring our Planet, the quiz programme is based on ‘Our Planet', a collaborative documentary between Netflix and WWF. It is expected to test students on their knowledge of the planet’s most diverse biomes and precious species.
Participating students would get free access to the WWF One Planet Academy- an online digital environmental resource with quiz, projects and plethora of information on our planet according to the statement.
“The biggest highlight of the Quiz is certificates signed by Sir David Attenborough for all participants” said a resource person from WWF.
Talking about the quiz, Radhika Suri, Director of Environment Education at WWF claimed that such programmes would help direct the interest of students towards biodiversity on the whole.
“These small interactive steps are essential to build a connection between children and the surrounding environment for a better tomorrow,” she said.
The principal of Kongunadu College, Mr. Boominathan, Landscape Coordinator WWF, Dr. Raja, Professor, Eco Club Coordinator, Kongunadu College, Velmurugan, Assistant Professor and Pavendan Conservationist were present during the event.
