27 women workers injured in van-lorry collision at Gudalur

The Nilgiris : A van that carried women workers of a private tea estate in Nadukani area, Gudalur collided with a lorry injuring 27 women workers who were in the van. The injured have been admitted to the Government Hospital for treatment.

The Nilgiris : A van that carried women workers of a private tea estate in Nadukani area, Gudalur collided with a lorry injuring 27 women workers who were in the van. The injured have been admitted to the Government Hospital for treatment.

Over 50 women workers hailing from Nadukani, Ponnur and Keel Nadukani work at a private tea estate in Nadukani tea estate in the suburbs of Gudalur. The transportation for these women workers is provided by the estate management.

On Thursday morning, while the van in which the workers were travelling was nearing the private tea estate in Keel Nadukani, it collided with a tipper lorry from Kerala. Janaki (55) who was seated at the front was thrown out of the van through the front window and fell on the road, severely injuring her head. She has been rushed to a private hospital in Kerala for treatment.

Jayakodi (43) was also seriously injured and taken to the Ooty Government Hospital for treatment. 25 other workers who were also hurt on their faces, legs and heads were taken to the Gudalur Government Hospital for treatment. The passengers in the van stated that the van was being driven at high speed and veered out of control, hitting the lorry. The Devala police have registered a case and investigation is on.
