Coimbatore: Three wild elephants entered the residential area of Thaimudi Estate M.D and destroyed the door and walls of the ration shop run by the Women Self Help Group. They ran amuck and reportedly rampaged through several grocery items, including milk powder.

For over a month, herds of wild elephants have camped in the Valparai tea estates and also enter residential areas causing trouble to tea estate workers. In the instance of the ration shop being destroyed, residents chased the elephants by operating a lorry at the right time, due to which items like rice and sugar were saved.
But the walls of the shop have been totally destructed and hence the shop could not do business as usual, today. Officials from the Revenue Department arrived at the spot to inspect the area.
Residents fear that the herd of elephants could target residential homes too and hence requested immediate action from officials.
