The shopkeeper was reportedly possessing banned plastic carry bags, which the officials had seized during the raid.
Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation Act 1981 mandates chicken and meat stalls to obtain license from CCMC. According to the sources, the officials after receiving a tip off about the chicken shop in Kavundampalayam functioning without a license, inspected the shop and found it be true.
During the inspection, the officials also seized 15kg of banned plastic bags from the shop. The officials sealed the shop and notices were issued to the shop keeper seeking explantion.
According to section 371 and 372 of CCMC Act 1981, all slaughter houses within the corporation limits are under the control of the municipal commissioner. To obtain license, the owner of the place shall apply to the commissioner for a license within not less than forty five days and not more than ninety days more before opening the place to be used as slaughter house.
Animals can be slaughtered only in the premise which is having a valid license and the licenses have to be renewed every year.
