Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) has been witnessing a steady flow of dengue and viral fever cases. As of today, about 108 patients with viral fever are undergoing treatment at the CMCH, out of which 14 cases are tested positive for dengue.

Dengue fever which had claimed the lives of hundreds of people in Tamil Nadu last year, seems to be making a comeback, as dengue cases admitted in private and government hospitals are on a rise.

A couple of days ago, it was reported that 13 patients from the city and other adjoining districts were undergoing treatment at the CMCH. However, as of today, the count has increased.

Despite the Health department creating several awareness programs and door-to-door campaigns to curb the spreading of the mosquito-borne fever, the recent incessant southwest monsoon rains across the State has again triggered the spread of dengue fever.

Out of 14 dengue patients, nine are from Coimbatore district, five from other districts.

CMCH Dean, Ashokan stated at the press meet today that about the patients diagnosed with dengue fever have been admitted at special wards at the hospital.

He also urged the public to approach Government hospitals in case of fever and emphasised that round-the-clock treatment facilities will be provided to patients in special wards at CMCH and all medical facilities are readily available for patients.
