Coimbatore: The incessant southwest monsoon rains have restored greenery in the Mettupalayam forest area, while the wildlife are seen indulging delightfully in baths, in the forest's water bodies.
Coimbatore district had a good southwest monsoon downpour, this year, and marking the end of the southwest monsoon season, the district has been experiencing frequent showers during night hours. Owing to this, Mettupalayam exhibits a green forest cover which is a veritable treat to the eyes.

The incessant rains caused a transformation in the landscape in the region which was once dry and barren. Food and water are aplenty now for the wildlife in the MTP forest. Due to the affluent forest cover, elephants that are endemic to the Western ghats can now be seen in herds in the Mettupalayam and Sirumugai forest areas.
With the northwest monsoon rains likely to begin on October 20, forest officials opine that with resources for wildlife thriving within the forest region, straying of wildlife into residential areas and human-elephant conflict could reduce to a large extent.
