According to reports, a few Toda women who were working in the botanical garden heard the crying sound of a baby behind a bush and were shocked to find a new born baby in an abandoned state.
The women who rescued the baby immediately alerted the officials in the garden and 108 ambulance service. Later, the rescued baby was rushed to Ooty government hospital where it is presently undergoing treatment. Reports say, that the mother has abandoned the baby shortly within a couple of hours after birth.
The police personnel from B1 Station reached the spot and inquired with a few people on the incident. While they decided to scrutinise the CCTV footages installed at the entrance and inside the garden, to their shock they found that most of the CCTVs were faulty and no footage has been recorded.
With hundreds of people visiting the garden on a daily basis, the case could turn challenging to the Police. Moreover, the Nilgiris District Administration has to look into why the CCTV cameras have not been working in such a prominent international tourist destination, opine the public.
