The Nilgiris: Police arrest Murugan (25) from Idukorai, Mahendran (26) from Pakkasuran region, Maruthupandi (25) from Manjoor region when they tried to run away after being spotted with a car in which they had stored dangerous weapons.
The Nilgiris: Police arrest Murugan (25) from Idukorai, Mahendran (26) from Pakkasuran region, Maruthupandi (25) from Manjoor region when they tried to run away after being spotted with a car in which they had stored dangerous weapons.
An explosion was heard in the village of Idukorai near Kotagiri in the Nilgiri district. When the villagers from Idukorai Hatti came out of the house hearing the explosion, they saw a car without a number plate rushing out.
Immediately the villagers informed their relatives who were returning in a government bus about the unidentified car and asked them to stop the car and enquire.
Following this the bus driver parked the bus blocking the narrow road to Idukorai to stop the unidentified car coming that way. The men in the car knowing the police had been informed had fled into a nearby forest.
When the police arrived at the scene, they checked the car and found 2 machetes, 3 country bombs, kerosene and torchlight inside the car. The police seized the car, weapons and brought them to the Kotagiri police station. They started the search for the owner of the car and the people who escaped from the car.
Police then tracked them down and arrested the three persons who were in hiding in the Kotagiri region.
Investigation is underway to ascertain the reason for them carrying the weapons and the cause of the explosion.
