Dengue fever grips Coimbatore

Coimbatore: Dengue fever which had claimed the lives of nearly 100 people in Tamil Nadu last year has made a come back. As many as 13 patients suffering from dengue fever from Coimbatore and adjoining districts like Nilgiris and Tirupur are undergoing treatment at the Government Hospital here.

Despite the health department creating several awareness programs and door to door campaigns to curb the spreading of the mosquito-borne fever, the recent incessant rains across the State has triggered the spread of dengue fever.

Enhanced facilities at Coimbatore GH

Treatment and quarantine facilities are geared up in the Coimbatore GH to provide round-the-clock treatment to patients suffering from dengue fever. Around 20 specials wards have been allotted to admit patients diagnosed with dengue fever.



As of Saturday, 13 patients, including a three-year-old girl child from Avinashi, have been admitted at Government Medical Hospital in Coimbatore for intensive treatment.

Commenting on this, health officials said, “ 13 patients including five from Coimbatore, three from Tirupur and two from the Nilgiris district are being treated for dengue fever at CMCH. Among them, a 3-year-old girl child from Avinashi is undergoing intensive treatment. People are advised to report to the government hospitals if symptoms of dengue fever is suspected.”
