The annual Brahmotsavam event at the Srivari Aayath known as Thenthirumalai, in Jadavampalayam near Mettupalayam was conducted on a grand scale. Most festivals celebrated here are akin to that celebrated at the Tirupati temple in Andhra Pradesh.
As part of the annual Brahmotsavam, the ritual was held today for the Malayappa Swamy in Garuda Vahanam. Homam was performed and a garland from Srivilliputhur Andal was offered to Sri Venkatesa Perumal. This was followed by a procession on the Garuda Vahanam. Decorated in multi-coloured flowers, Malyappa Swamy was installed at the Vasantha Maligai for public to seek blessings.
Following this, a procession ensued with vedic mantras chanted by women who chanted 'Govinda Govinda.' Sweets and fruits were offered after the procession covered various streets and culminated at the Vasantha Maaligai. Several pilgrims received the darshan. The chariot festival is scheduled for tomorrow.
