The daily NMR train service is operated from Mettupalayam to Ooty at 7. 15 am. Both local and internationals tourists make a beeline for this train journey since the renowned NMR train chugs its way through serene landscape, dense jungles, waterfalls and sometimes even allowing a glimpse of wildlife.
One can travel in the NMR train only with prior reservation since there are only four compartments and cannot accommodate more than 150 passengers. With only one daily train operational, tourists have had to wait several months to book their seats. Tourists had therefore requested the Railway Administration to provide an additional train service to be able to travel more frequently on the renowned NMR train.
Heeding to public request, the Southern Railways had announced that it will launch an additional mountain train service from October 5, owing to the second season's Flower Exhibition in Ooty. The train service had been planned in such a way that the daily train will continue leave at 7.15 am and the additional train will leave at 9.10 am from Mettupalayam.
The Southern Railways has announced that the mountain train will operate at special rates for two holidays of the week - Saturday and Sunday. The special train will operate until December 29 which has gladdened the hearts of tourists besotted with a long-overdue ride on the NMR train.
