Coimbaotore : To commemorate the 50th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Department of Business Administration of PSGR Krishnammal College for Women in Coimbatore had initiated its community development extension activities in the areas of Iruttupallam and Semmedu villages of Thondamuthur Block. They covered about 250 households on October 2 between 6.30 am - 8.30 am. 60 undergraduate students and three faculty members were involved in the program.

The community development activities undertaken included Clean India (Swachh Bharat Abhiyan) at Iruttupallam, Environmental Issues Importance of Waste Segregation, Solid Waste Management, Rain Water Harvesting at Semmedu and the need for sanitation and importance of nutritious food for rural women communicated at Semmedu.
Kittuswamy and K Kanakaraj, Directors of the Velliangiri Farmer Producers’ Organization (FPO) and Prem, the CEO of FPO delivered lectures on the need for youngsters to take up agri-entrepreneurship and requested more women to enter into various areas of agriculture. They also detailed on the necessities of organic farming for BBA students on October 2 between 8.45 am to 9.30 am at Semmedu in Coimbatore.
A workshop on home gardening and composting was organized in a tie-up with Kriya Greens Organization on October 2 between 9.30 am to 3.30 pm. K Rajamani, the Founder of Kriya Greens and former Principal of Kikani Higher Secondary School familiarized the BBA students in the areas of home gardening and home composting. Practical training and activities were given to students to familiarize them with different concepts. Jeevitha assisted in the hands-on training session.
