Coimbatore: In a raid conducted last night by Tamil Nadu’s Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) sleuths at the Thudiyalur Regional Transport Office (RTO) here, Rs.1,20,000 was seized.

Under the supervision of DSP Rajesh, the DVAC officials investigated 20 intermediaries in the office, the traffic vehicle inspector and other office staff. During the questioning of an intermediary about the sum of Rs.25000 in his two-wheeler, the man reportedly fainted.
There were also a few thousand notes in the restroom area and in the area were confiscated vehicles are dumped. This was followed by the confiscation of RC books and Drivers Licences of intermediaries and auto inspectors. Officials seized a total of Rs.1,20,000 during this raid.
With festive days ahead and vigilance officials stepping up scrutiny, more such raids are expected at government offices across the State.
Last year, the staff at the Central Regional Transport Office were shocked when the Anti-Corruption police officials suddenly entered the office. They hid their money between files in the office, while some employees disposed their bribes in the toilet and also threw away the money at random.
The Anti-Corruption police officials thereafter seized all the hidden money. Similarly, a raid at the Central RTO here, Rs.1,04,718 was seized.
In the past few years, with bribery in Government offices on the rise across the country, the Anti-Corruption Police team have been conducting sudden raids to curb bribery. It has become customary for the Anit-Corruption Department to carry out raids on all Government offices before the annual Diwali festival. They have been conducting inspections of RTO offices, in particular.
Anti-Corruption raids in 2018:
The Anti-Corruption Department had conducted raids at Government offices across Tamil Nadu following bribery complaints in Government offices during Diwali season.
Rs. 1,54,000 rupees was seized during a raid conducted by the Anti-Corruption Police at the Kovilpatti RTO in Thoothukudi district.
Similarly, Rs. 1,32,020 was seized at the RTO checkpoint in Hosur's SIPCOT area in Krishnagiri district.
Similarly, a raid carried out by the Anti-Corruption Police at the RTO at Cuddalore, Caper Mountain and Rs. 4,32,000 rupees was seized.
During another raid at the Thanjavur RTO, a sum of Rs.12,647 was confiscated.
Similarly, in the raids conducted in Coimbatore, Rs.1,04,718 has been seized. Over Rs. 45 lakhs has been seized from various Regional Transport Offices across Tamil Nadu in 2018.
