Coimbatore Corporation releases draft electoral roll for local body elections; 14.4 lakh voters eligible to vote

Coimbatore: Based on a GO passed by State Election Commission, Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner, J.Sravan Kumar released the draft electoral roll for 100 wards of the city on Friday.

Coimbatore: Based on a GO passed by State Election Commission, Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner, J.Sravan Kumar released the draft electoral roll for 100 wards of the city on Friday.

The total number of voters according to the draft electoral roll would be 14,42,107 among which 7,26,176 are men, 7,15,724 are women voters and 207 transgender voters.

Releasing the draft electoral roll, CCMC Commisioner noted that there would be 1216 polling booths in 100 wards. 

"We have taken efforts not to include more than 1400 voters for one polling booth. In some places, the voters would be between 400 - 600 per polling booth. In order to avoid hardships for the public, we have ensured that polling booths comes under the respective wards," stated the Commissioner. 

"Draft electoral rolls would be kept for public viewing in all zonal offices and voters can approach the respective offices in case of changes. Changes can be made in the list till nominations are filed for elections", noted the CCMC Commissioner.

He also added that the copy of the draft electoral list has been distributed to all political parties. 

Corporation Commissioner, J. Sravan Kumar would be the Returning Officer for the 100 wards coming under Corporation limits with 20 Assistant returning officers designated to monitor the election process.
