In a bid to clear pending cases swiftly, several new courts are being opened in the State. With this new court, it is expected that pending cases will see the light of redressal within a stipulate time.
It may be recalled that a special court to deal with cases registered under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, was started in the district Court complex here recently from September. And, Judicial Magistrate N. Thilageswari was appointed judge for the new court situated in the Combined Court Complex in the city.
According to government data, the Madras High Court is all set to enter 2019 with a backlog of around 4 lakh cases and around 10 lakh cases pending in the Lower courts in the State.
The Law Ministry had moved a note in December 2018 and had sought an annual funding of Rs 767.25 crore to set up the additional courts for two years to clear the pending cases.
