Coimbatore: Dengue fever seems to have made a comeback in the city again. An emergency advisory meeting of the Health Department with pharmaceutical dealers was held at the Joint Director of Health Department Office in Race Course.

During the monsoon rains that the city experienced last year, over 60 people in Coimbatore suffered from dengue fever and were admitted in the Coimbatore Government Hospital, out of which about 35 people lost their lives. Subsequently, the Government Hospital and the Health Department together conducted various awareness programs in each of the rural areas that contributed to the reduction in the prevalence of dengue fever.

Presently, with the onset of dengue fever in the city again, the affected are being admitted to private and Government hospitals. An emergency advisory meeting for pharmaceutical dealers was held today at the office of the Joint Director of the Health Department at Race Course. The meeting was chaired by Bhanumathi, the Joint Director of the Health Department.

Pharmaceutical dealers were advised to keep their pharmacy stores clean. They were also instructed to remove water at the back of the refrigerator and to change water of bottled plants regularly. Similarly, the Health Department officials have advised pharmaceutical dealers to inform patients to consult doctors and not administer over-the-counter medicines to those suffering from the flu. More than a hundred pharmaceutical dealers attended the emergency meeting to consult with the Health Department.
