Makkal Sudar Parvai Iyyakkam has also demanded action against the company and the actress who endorsed the adulterated oil in an advertisement.
Coimbatore: In a complaint to the Food Safety Department, Makkal Sudar Parvai Iyyakkam called for immediate action against Sri Annapurna Agro Food company for selling substandard oil. Makkal Sudar Parvai Iyyakkam has also demanded action against the company and the actress who endorsed the adulterated oil in an advertisement.

Preparations of sweets and savouries are on at full swing with Diwali fast approaching. The Food and Safety Department creates awareness every year to ensure quality foods are sold to people. In relation to this, Makkal Sudar Parvai Iyyakkam's complaint against Sri Annapurna Agro Foods stated that the oil company should be banned because of the usage of high levels of raw materials that are in violation of Government regulations. The complaint also urged the Food Safety Department to confiscate the oil to prevent public from using it, especially in the lead up to Diwali preparations. Makkal Sudar Parvai Iyyakkam also requested action against the actress Anjali who endorsed the adulterated oil.

Addressing the media, the Food Safety Officer Tamil Selvan said, "With regard to the petition, proper laboratory tests will be done to ascertain the quality of the oil and necessary action will be taken. But, we will not be able to take action on the complaint against the actress."
