Coimbatore: To felicitate the champions of Clean India, the India Today group hosted the 'Safaigiri Awards' and lauded the pioneering efforts of individuals and organisations leading to a marked change in the cleanliness of society and the environment.

Coimbatore-based NGO, Siruthuli bagged the 'Best River - Cleaning Initiative' at the Safaigiri Awards 2019 event for its efforts to rehabilitate water bodies around Coimbatore as well as for its initiative in restoring the Noyyal River.
It is to be noted that Siruthuli has restored 26 local water bodies and created water storage space totalling 7 million cubic metres. "The Tamil Phrase "Siruthuli Peru Vellam" means small drops make a mighty ocean. It is the sine qua non of this collective effort to conserve and replenish water bodies," opined the NGO's Managing Trustee, Vanitha Mohan.
The NGO was delighted at receiving the award from India Today for Best River Cleaning Initiatives in conjunction with the Swachh Bharat mission of the Government of India. "It is a recognition of the collective efforts of all Coimbatoreans who respect and revere our very own Noyyal," exulted the Siruthuli team.
