Coimbatore: Marking Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary celebrations, the Khadi Special Sale Opening Ceremony was held at the Tamil Nadu Khadi Village Industries Board office near Avinashi Road overbridge.

The District Collector, K Rajamani paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi and inaugurated the Khadi Special Sale.
While addressing the media, Assistant Director, Suresh stated, "Last year's sales was at a total of Rs. 2 crores with Rs. 1.20 crores for Khadi sales, with products from village industries sold at Rs. 75 lakhs. This year, the sales target has been set at Rs. 2.58 crores.

Owing to Diwali, khadi, silk and polyester will be sold at a discount of 30 percent and wollen products will be sold at a discount of 20 percent. Last year, silk sarees were sold for Rs. 60 lakhs, and this year, we expect more sales."
"As part of Diwali sales, temporary sales points will be set up at 15 locations including the Panchayat Union, Government hospitals, Government transport corporation until November 30," added Suresh.
DRO Ramathurai Murugan, the South Tahsildar Devanathan, North Tahsildar Mahesh, Ruban Shankar Raja, Project Director of DRDA and PRO Nallathambi were also present at the event.
