Coimbatore: Based on a tip-off received that a few miscreants from North India were planning to rob passengers in Omnibuses plying from Coimbatore to Bangalore and Coimbatore to Chennai, the city police arrested two men hailing from Uttar Pradesh.
Coimbatore: Based on a tip-off received that a few miscreants from North India were planning to rob passengers in Omnibuses plying from Coimbatore to Bangalore and Coimbatore to Chennai, the city police arrested two men hailing from Uttar Pradesh.
Subsequent to the tip-off, on the orders of the Commissioner of Police, Sumit Sharan and Deputy Commissioner of Crime Branch, Perumal, an exclusive squad arrested the two men from Uttar Pradesh at the Gandhipuram Omni bus stand. Investigations carried out by the police revealed that the suspects were Sahil Ahmed (41) and Riya Hussain (46) from Bijnor district in Uttar Pradesh. It was also found that they had been robbing jewellery and cash on buses.
The city police produced the two accused in the Court after which they were put behind bars in the Central Prison in Coimbatore. It is to be noted that the people of Bijinur district in Uttar Pradesh have been known recently for specialising in looting passengers in buses.
There have been a rise in the number of robberies targeting passengers in buses and trains in Tamil Nadu over the past few months. Recently, the Peelamedu police arrested Malaisamy from Sivagangai after a complaint was lodged that about 938g of gold jewellery was robbed from a bus on August 29.
