The ear-marked issues are solid waste management, rain water harvesting, seggregation of wastes at source and dengue prevention in the city. Though attempts in the past to achieve 100% source segregation had not yielded much results, the Corporation thus has decided to reach out to the masses in novel ways.
In line with this, Corporation Commissioner, J. Sravan Kumar on Wednesday during the launch of “Clean Covai league” announced that six wards will be announced as model wards in the city.
He noted that ward 6 & 7 in the west zone, 30 in North zone, 96 in South, 61 in East and 73 in the Central Zone were declared as model zones.
According to Corporation officials, these wards will no more have bins and efforts to achieve total source segregation will be stepped up in the wards. Solid waste management and planting more trees will also be carried out to make these wards as model wards. Gradually, this method will be extended to all the other wards in the city.
The public are requested to co-operate with the sanitary workers and ensure
100% source segregation to make Coimbatore a clean city.
